Although there are only three original recordings on this album (and these represent a reworking for acoustic piano and orchestra of the `Three Cowboy Songs” from “Discovered Again”), “The Orchestral Album” still represents a must have, and excellent companion piece to “Cinemagic” (which also contains the theme from “Heart Is A Lonely Hunter”).

The content and orchestration herein is so rich, dramatic and solid that it offers not just great pleasure, but genuine musical nourishment, and an important indication to Dave Grusin's fusion fans that he was excelling in a parallel world of music all the while he was creating such gems as “One of a Kind,” “Mountain Dance” and “Harlequin.”

The new orchestral arrangements of the "Three Cowboy Songs" also won him a Grammy award.
